An experienced creative entrepreneur and producer, Cynthia La Grou has served as managing director of Films for the Planet, an online streaming platform for environmental and social impact films, since 2017. Concurrently, she is the executive director and co-founder of Placerville, California-based Compathos Foundation, an art, and media nonprofit committed to producing various educational and inspirational films, documentaries, and online events. Cynthia La Grou is also actively engaged with multiple like-minded organizations and initiatives, including the Buckminster Fuller Institute’s (BFI) Design Science Studio (DSS).
For over four decades, BFI has striven to fulfill the vision of Richard Buckminster Fuller, an American architect, engineer, inventor, and futurist. Dubbed by many the Leonardo da Vinci of the 20th century, he devoted his life and work to removing any ecological offense or disadvantage in the world and making it function for all of humanity. Resting on Fuller’s methodology, Comprehensive Anticipatory Design Science or Design Science for short, the DSS is one of BFI’s various programs to realize its mission.
Design Science is a cross-section of multiple disciplines, including biomimicry, design thinking, futurism, and regenerative development. It employs cutting-edge technology to eliminate human’s negative impact on nature and heal the environment.
The DSS serves as an educational incubator that guides, mentors, and financially supports various global creators, ranging from fine artists and performers to philosophers and system thinkers to designers and ecologists. Its program, realized together with habRitual, an experiential and interdisciplinary design studio, provides prospective participants with thorough learning and collaborative opportunities to explore design science and create nature-conscious art and messages that inspire a regenerative and fair for 100 percent of life future.
